ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE UPDATE

ODA COMMITTEE UNVEILS NEW "MUNICIPAL BARRIER-BUSTERS ACTION KIT" AS MAJOR TOOL IN OUR CAMPAIGN FOR BARRIER-FREE ONTARIO

November 24, 2002

SUMMARY

The Ontarians with Disabilities Act Committee has unveiled a very important
new document. It will be a major tool in our campaign for a barrier-free
province. This is our new 18-page "Municipal Barrier Busters Action Kit."
Incorporating ideas from around Ontario, it is chock full of ideas on how
everyone can help fight for the removal and prevention of barriers within
your own local municipality.

This new Action Kit was formally unveiled on Saturday November 23, 2002 in
London Ontario at a very successful "Barrier Busters Public Forum" convened
by the London Region of the ODA Committee. Thanks to all who attended that
event and to all who worked so hard to arrange it.

Please take the time to read this new Action Kit carefully. It is detailed
and offers tons of good ideas. We hope it will be helpful to you whether
you are an interested member of the public, a staff member at a disability
organization in the community or a member of a municipality's Disability
Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Send this new Action Kit to friends, family members and co-workers. Print
it up and distribute it. If you are part of a community organization, make
sure it is circulated within your organization and to your board members
and consumers. We will be making it available in alternative format.

Let us know what you think of this Action Kit. Send your feedback to:

oda@odacommittee.net

We plan in the next weeks to prepare and send out a second "Barrier Busters
Action Kit" to deal with barriers in certain other specific sectors
including public transit, hospitals, colleges and universities, school
boards and the provincial government. Keep sending us your ideas so we can
incorporate them. Thanks to all who shared ideas so far.
