ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE UPDATE

You Can Now Watch and Listen On Line to the ODA Committee London Region's September 11 Michael Lewis Memorial "Still Waiting" Symposium on New Disability Accessibility Legislation

November 21, 2004

SUMMARY

We are delighted to let you know that for anyone who has high-speed access
to the internet, you can now watch and listen to the proceedings of the ODA
Committee London Region
's excellent day-long September 11, 2004 Michael
Lewis Memorial "Still Waiting" symposium on new disability accessibility
legislation
. It is available via streaming over the internet.

Go to:

http://tinyurl.com/3n9ob

When you go to that link, which is accessible for users of screen-reading
access software, you can click on and listen to the recorded proceedings,
originally broadcast in four episodes by Rogers' Cable in London. You can
watch and listen to the whole proceeding from beginning to end, or select
specific parts to watch.

This is the same content as is available for purchase on video tape from
Rogers Cable in London. While Rogers did some editing, they successfully
captured the key content of the symposium.

We want to extend a huge thank you to a wonderful individual and his company
that generously donated the time and web space to make this available. Three
cheers for:

We want to thank Rogers Cable for permitting this material to be made
available in this format. As well, we again thank the team of volunteer
organizers of this symposium, effectively led by Kathy Lewis and Lorin
MacDonald, for arranging such a great conference. This technology lets us
reach many people who couldn't come to join us at the symposium back in
September.

We encourage you to visit this link, watch the proceedings, and use the
ideas exchanged there to develop your own ideas for amendments to Bill 118.
Encourage others to watch this symposium too. Get your school, college or
university course to use this as a teaching tool. This will be available on
line for certain until around June 2005.

Send us your feedback on the conference, and your ideas for amendments, at:

oda@odacommittee.net

Even though this conference took place four weeks before the Ontario
Government introduced Bill 118, the proposed Accessibility for Ontarians
with Disabilities Act, the conference's discussions and presentations
provide excellent, enduring food for thought.

For persons who are deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing, we still have
available the real time captioning from this symposium. To request this MS
Word file, email us at:

oda@odacommittee.net
